Include Moving Blankets in Your List of Moving Supplies

Moving is no small feat. Making sure that you have the correct moving supplies when the time comes will ensure that this monumental task is no more of a headache than it needs to be. One of the most obvious moving supplies you’ll need is an assortment of moving boxes. But what about the more obscure, but just as important, supplies?

One moving supply that may not come to mind right away is moving blankets. And just because it may not be the first supply you think of doesn’t mean they are of any less importance. This moving supply protects the outside of furniture and inside of appliances. Wrap your dressers, cabinets, shelves, headboards, chairs, sofas, refrigerators, small appliances, and TVs, in moving blankets to provide maximum protection and stay damage-free during your move.

Now that you know that these blankets should be included in your moving supplies, you should know a little more about them. On average, moving blankets are 72″ x 80″ and approximately 1/8 inch thick. Depending on your need, there are different grades of moving blankets, which can be bought in bulk or individually. Moving blankets generally weigh from 3 pounds to 8 pounds. The heavier the weight of the moving blanket, the greater protection that it can offer, as it will provide the greatest amount of padding. If you are moving a large mirror or the glass top of a coffee table, you will want to wrap these items in thick moving blankets because they are breakable and need the greatest amount of protection. On the other hand, if you are moving a chair and aren’t worried about potential damage but want to protect it from dust and grime, a lighter moving blanket will suffice, as they don’t have as much padding.

Once you have the blankets and are ready to move, the process of using them is quite simple. Wrap them tightly around the furniture and appliances, covering all the sides. Then make sure that you secure the blanket with packing tapes, stretch wrap, or ropes so that the blanket doesn’t come off during your move.

These are simple, yet very useful and often overlooked moving supply. Don’t forget to include them in your list of moving supplies so that your move will go as smoothly as possible.
